It was November 30th 2013, we had been living in our first house for a little over a month, and I was extremely anxious to decorate for Christmas. Anyone who knows me knows I am a Christmas fanatic! It truly is the happiest time of the year...everything seems cozier, everyone seems friendlier, and all the houses covered in twinkle lights make my heart smile! Nick had decided it was time to upgrade our scrawny, hand-me-down, artificial Christmas tree and after a lot of hunting for a realistic, realistically priced tree he found one on Craigslist (for those who know us, this is quite fitting). He told me that we were going to have a date night after picking up and decorating our new tree. I thought very little of it since we had just moved and I was wrapped up in the Christmas spirit. After getting the tree home, we plugged in our gorgeous pre-lit tree just to find half the lights didn't work!! Oh Craigslist... Now Nick is normally a very "roll with it" kind of guy (I am definitely the high strung one) but he was extremely frustrated with the fact the lights didn't work. I was tired of dealing with the tree and needed to get ready for our dinner date so I told him to leave the tree alone and that we would take care of it the next day. He seemed so defeated about the silly lights (that should have been a sign something was going on) and I couldn't understand why he was getting so worked up over something so minor. After showering and getting ready (if I had only known what was coming I would have spent a lot more time primping!) I found Nick downstairs waiting with a present. "I have an early Christmas gift for you," he said. "It's not Christmas yet, just put it under the tree," I replied. After a little insisting I sat down on our couch and unwrapped my present. I opened the box to find an ornament that said:

Now here is where I want to give the sugar-coated story, but it wouldn't be our story. I had dreamt about the day Nick and I would get engaged, and trust me, I had never imagined I would react like I did. Upon seeing what the ornament said I threw it back in the box and repeated a good 5 to 10 times: "Are you kidding me?!?" Poor Nick was on one knee telling me something sweet about how the past three years had been amazing and how he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me (at least I think that was what he was saying) and all I could say is "are you kidding me?" I was half in tears and half in shock...it was not a pretty combination. I am pretty sure I said "yes" somewhere in there and then proceeded to ask for a glass of water. As I type this I just keep thinking "poor Nick." He definitely didn't get the reaction I am sure he had been hoping for. After I finally calmed down a bit, he told me we were heading to Second Empire (a very special restaurant where we had our one year anniversary). Once we got there, they had a special table set up and a sweet personalized menu signed by the chef waiting for us:

We ate amazing food, drank some lovely wine, and ended our meal with Nick's absolute favorite dessert (and the same dessert we had on our one year anniversary) key lime pie:
As ridiculous as I was that night, I couldn't be more exited to marry my best friend and spend the rest of our lives together!
